An Essential Component
Small groups meet in groups of 4-6 persons to discuss our homework, we openly and candidly share our struggles and victories, identify areas in our lives where we need God’s healing, power, and grace, and most importantly, pray for each other in Christ-centered love and concern. In our groups we obey the exhortation to “confess our sins to one another,” and in doing so experience the biblical truth that “we will be healed”

good culture
The purpose of Prodigal small groups is to make a safe (confidential) place for you to share and pray for what is going on in your lives. For the group to be successful, some boundaries must be in place. These boundaries are:
confidentiality
It is paramount to uphold confidentially in a Prodigal small group. By not sharing any stories, no matter how ambiguous, with your wives, friends, roommates, or even other pastors, you protect your fellow group members, and yourself, from gossip. No group may proceed unless all participants have turned in their confidentiality statements to their leader.
begin & end on time
Prodigal small groups usually operate for one hour, from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. When you uphold these boundaries, you help establish an orderly small group framework. It allows the members of the group to be focused and for discussions operate in an efficient manner.
minimize cross talk
The material you discuss and pray over in the small groups should be directly related (as much as possible) to the teaching of the evening. By staying focused to discussions around these topics, it assures that everyone in the group has a chance to share and invest in the conversation.
keep to task & purpose
Your small group are where much of your work, (prayer) and keeping to relationship and personal issues (purpose) will focus. It is our hope that in our mealtime together, in the singing we share and the teachings we give, that a growing sense of adventure and wonder and hope will build to overflowing in your hearts and minds.
Guide Books
There are 4 books that we use as the foundation of our study materials. These books focus on the 4 objectives of the Prodigal Men’s Ministry. Each small group will go through these materials in order. The books are:
Guide Book
Apprentice
In the first phase (the Apprentice phase) you will be asked to complete Four Objectives and to commit to meeting for at least nine months. The Objectives are designed to give each person an avenue of accountability with our struggles and bring to light that which weighs us down.

Journeyman
In the second phase (the Journeyman phase) you will complete Objectives Five through Eight. At the beginning of the second phase, the Lord’s work in your life will be apparent if there is an attitude of daily surrender to His will. By the end of the Journeyman phase, you could be a maturing leader, praying and living life in community with passion.

Craftsman
The last phase is called the Craftsman (leadership) phase, which is living and meditating on Jesus’ teaching called the Beatitudes found in Matthew chapter five, as well as the Parable of the Prodigal Son, and the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

Master Craftsman
This book is a bit different than the Apprentice, Journeyman, and Craftsman Guidebooks. Master Craftsman is a compilation of personal stories of transformation by men who have found freedom in this ministry. These stories are of course anonymous and will remain so.
